Introducing Diplomacy - Influence the X Universe Like Never Before
At the core of the 8.00 update for X4: Foundations is the new Diplomacy system, which will make the sandbox and economy simulation elements of X4: Foundations shine in new ways. The Diplomacy system is a deeply integrated new gameplay feature, built around three main components:
Embassy Room - A Convenient Way to Interact
A new embassy facility can be unlocked at your Player Headquarters (PHQ). Once unlocked, this room becomes the hub for your diplomatic endeavours. Here, Diplomats take their seats at a roundtable, offering quick access to faction representatives from across the galaxy.
Agents - Specialists in Diplomacy and Espionage
Agents are a new class of hireable NPCs who can be specialised in negotiation or espionage. Once recruited and assigned a ship, agents can be sent on a wide range of diplomatic operations - to negotiate player relations, spy on enemy ships, or even sow chaos from the shadows. You start with the ability to control two agents, and can expand this to eight through research and progression.
Diplomatic Interference - Shape Inter-Faction Politics
Perhaps the most game-changing element is that you can now trigger and influence dynamic diplomatic standing between NPC factions. Changes in faction relations can have an extraordinary impact on the galaxy, as alliances, trade partners and supply chains shift. Events can lead to shifting alliances, wars, ceasefires, or changes in strategic resource access, making the universe feel more alive and reactive to your decisions.
 More about the 8.00 update
NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation Support - A Performance Gamechanger
We’re excited to bring NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation to X4: Foundations, offering a major performance boost for players with supported hardware. DLSS frame generation can generate additional frames, doubling or even quadrupling your current frame rate, especially in situations where the game is limited by CPU speed. X4: Foundations is unusually dependent on the CPU, because it simulates the entire universe in addition to performing AI and physics calculations. To enable Frame Generation in X4, simply turn on NVIDIA DLSS in the graphics settings. On supported hardware, Frame Generation will be activated automatically.
 Map Layout
Among many UI improvements, one of the most visible is a change in the layout of the X4 universe map. Sectors are now grouped differently for better readability of the map.
 New Connection Modules
Did you ever want to have a nice clean corner on your station, or to neatly top-off a vertical structure? What about a T-Shaped connector? Or maybe you were missing a curved piece to be able to build your dream station. We are happy to announce that in the 8.00 update, Argon architects have shared their blueprints for 5 new connection modules, opening up brand new possibilities for station design aficionados. Let your creativity fly, and if you feel like sharing your station plans then pay a visit to the Construction Community in our forums.
 Bem-vindos! Portuguese Voice-Over Support Arrives
With the 8.00 update, we’re proud to introduce Portuguese voice-overs to X4: Foundations for the very first time. This marks an exciting step forward in making the X universe more accessible to even more players around the world.

( full 8.00 changelog in our forum)
 X4: Envoy Pack
The X4: Envoy Pack expands the universe of X4: Foundations with: - The Envoy, a new stealth-ready frigate jointly developed by the Argon Federation and Teladi Ministry of Finance

 - The mysterious Cypher, an unauthorised variant often found in pirate hands

 - A new mission chain in your Open Universe that leads to the discovery and unlocking of the Envoy

 - A new gamestart that immediately draws you into the Envoy's storyline

 - A brand new sector, waiting to be explored in the Open Universe

 - New musical additions that enhance the X4 soundtrack and deepen the atmosphere of your journey through space
Operate from the Shadows with the Envoy- The most prestigious ship for Diplomacy in X4: Foundations, significantly reducing agent operation durations (as introduced in the 2025 X4 Diplomacy Update)

 - A fully explorable interior - only the second of its kind among M-size ships

 - A new Cloak stance, optimised for radar evasion and covert manoeuvres

 - Faction camouflage protocols, allowing visual deception when piloting these ships

 - Exclusive engines, shields and main forward-mounted weapons, unavailable to other ships

Designed for infiltration, reconnaissance, and misdirection, the Envoy is a new mid-sized warship that brings a fresh tactical dimension to the X4 universe. It features a sleek silhouette, exclusive subsystems, and an immersive submarine-inspired interior that reinforces its role as a stealth operator in hostile space.
The Envoy offers immersion through function and purpose. It is also only the second "full interior" M-class ship introduced into X4: Foundations, following the luxurious Astrid from the X4: Tides of Avarice expansion. From the moment you ascend the dockside boarding ramp, you can walk through the ship's atmospheric interior all the way up to the cockpit, and enjoy a rare level of interactivity for ships of this class.

Its Cloak stance lets you suppress radar visibility and improve manoeuvrability - at the cost of top speed, acceleration, engine boost, and all weapon systems. In this mode, both the ship's main and secondary weapons are fully disabled, with retractable turrets concealed from view. When subtlety is no longer an option, deactivating the Stealth stance restores the Envoy's full combat capabilities.
 Disguise and Deceive
Activate faction camouflage protocols to display the identity of another faction, misleading observers and delaying identification. Whether you're slipping past enemy blockades or staging an ambush under false colours, the Envoy offers unmatched versatility for commanders who favour stealth operations over brute force.
 Enter the Cypher
A rogue variant of mysterious origin, the Cypher offers enhanced speed and agility over the Envoy, making it a fast-moving presence in combat.

Fully compatible with the Envoy's exclusive engines, shields, and primary weapons, the Cypher is often fitted with a versatile mix of Teladi and independently sourced technology. It also features identity-masking protocols, allowing it to mimic the transponder signature of other factions - the perfect choice for commanders who favour mobility, adaptability, and a more unconventional approach.
 New Ways to Command
Whether you're scouting behind enemy lines, smuggling under a false identity, or leading precision strikes with minimal visibility, the X4: Envoy Pack opens up new strategic and narrative possibilities for your X4 open universe.

How Do I Take Part in the Public Beta?
Every player who owns X4: Foundations has the opportunity to download the new 8.00 Public Beta version. In order to ensure that beta participants are aware of the risks and rules involved, we ask all interested players to visit our forum, where they will find the rules and disclaimers, as well as practical instructions for participating in the beta. Follow this link to our forum - no registration required - to find the relevant information.
- Unlockable via research at the PHQ

 - Accessible through a new UI tab, alongside Research and Terraforming

 - Requires friendly relations to accept faction diplomats

 - New “Factions and Relations” menus to give a better overview
Agents - Specialists in Diplomacy and Espionage
Agents are a new class of hireable NPCs who can be specialised in negotiation or espionage. Once recruited and assigned a ship, agents can be sent on a wide range of diplomatic operations - to negotiate player relations, spy on enemy ships, or even sow chaos from the shadows.

Key agent mechanics include: - Experience system with six ranks, from Recruit to Spymaster

 - Specialised missions: improve relations, forge ceasefires, steal blueprints, initiate diplomatic interference, and more

 - Resource-driven actions: missions require a mix of credits, influence, and special items such as hacking tools or bribes

 - Cooldowns and risks: operations take time and may carry injury or failure risks depending on mission difficulty and agent skill

These events are based on real inter-faction relations (ally, neutral, hostile, etc.) and cover scenarios such as: - Trade disputes

 - Cyber attacks

 - Suspicions of espionage

 - Peace talks

 - Territorial claims

As a player, you can: - Influence the event using an agent to steer the result in your favour

 - Enable Protocol Null to sow chaos and trigger periodic inter-faction events

 - Do nothing and observe the outcome

Events can lead to shifting alliances, wars, ceasefires, or changes in strategic resource access, making the universe feel more alive and reactive to your decisions.
How can I access the new Diplomacy features and how do I share feedback during the Public Beta?
Once you own your Player Headquarters and have completed the Hatikvah Trade Revolution storyline, Dal Busta will contact you to introduce you to these new opportunities.

As with all new gameplay features in past major X4 updates, this marks the first iteration of the new system. During the Public Beta, we’ll closely monitor your feedback, discuss it within the team, and fine-tune individual elements ahead of the full release of the X4: Foundations Diplomacy Update later this year.

Please share your feedback / bug report in our Public Beta Feedback forum. Before doing so, please make sure you read the Public Beta Rules and Information, which you can find in a sticky thread at the top of that forum.

Whether you're commanding a fleet in the middle of a massive battle or overseeing your interstellar trade empire, Frame Generation can dramatically improve the fluidity of your experience, especially at higher resolutions or on modern high-refresh displays.

If you're using a GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU, you’ll now benefit from DLSS 3, which introduces Frame Generation alongside NVIDIA’s AI-powered Super Resolution. For players on RTX 50 Series GPUs, we’re also preparing for DLSS 4, which brings Multi Frame Generation (generating multiple additional frames per rendered frame), as well as improved Super Resolution - all powered by NVIDIA’s fifth-generation Tensor Cores.

Did you ever want to have a nice clean corner on your station, or to neatly top-off a vertical structure? What about a T-Shaped connector? Bem-vindos! Portuguese Voice-Over Support Arrives
With the 8.00 update, we’re proud to introduce Portuguese voice-overs to X4: Foundations for the very first time. This marks an exciting step forward in making the X universe more accessible to even more players around the world. If you're a Portuguese speaker, we’d love to hear your thoughts on this new addition. Please share your impressions and feedback in our Public Beta Feedback forum and help us make the Portuguese version the best it can be!
 What's next?
As with previous major updates, development doesn’t stop with the start of the Public Beta. This feedback phase is an essential part of the process, and we’re committed to refining the update further - guided by both our own ideas and, just as importantly, your insights. We invite you to share your thoughts and experiences in the Public Beta Feedback forum, and help us shape the final version of the update together.

Thanks for your support - and best of luck forging alliances, brokering peace, or, well... stirring the pot.

We're happy to announce that the 7.60 update for X4: Foundations is now live! This is a purely technical update focused on improving video memory management, along with a range of bug fixes and optimizations to enhance stability and overall performance. While there are no new gameplay features in this update, these behind-the-scenes changes are all about making your experience smoother and more reliable.
🛠️ A few notes on what changed
One of the key improvements in 7.60 is how the game handles GPU memory, to make it able to run better on lower-end systems such as the Steam Deck. The result is fewer cases where the game runs slowly or is unable to continue due to lack of GPU memory. A possible side effect for some people may be slightly slower loading of assets, such as ship parts or characters. If you run into this, you can try lowering Texture Quality to Medium or disabling Volumetric Fog in the graphics settings. These options have a fairly minor effect on the visuals of the game, but can free up a lot of GPU memory!

As always, thanks to everyone who took part in the Public Beta and shared feedback. Your input helps us keep X4 in great shape.

	            Dear X4 players,
The long wait is over - the Flight Model Update (7.50) is now available! We want to thank everyone who participated in the beta, provided valuable feedback, and helped us identify and fix various issues. You have truly helped us a lot. This update brings significant improvements to flight mechanics and physics, making ship handling more dynamic and distinct than ever before. To help you adjust, we’ve put together this FAQ.

Q: What is this update about?
A: This update introduces a wide range of improvements across the game ( see full changelog), but the most significant change is the updated flight model. Ships now handle differently depending on their size, weight, and engine configuration.
Q: What has changed in the flight model?
A: The way ships handle has been completely reworked. The changes affect every aspect of flight, including acceleration, turning, boosting, and braking. Each ship and engine type now has more distinct flight characteristics, creating a more varied and immersive flying experience.

For example: - Small scouts and fighters remain nimble even at high speeds.

 - Fully loaded freighters and miners experience more drift due to their increased mass.

 - Large ships take longer to start moving in a new direction despite having high rotation speeds.
Q: How does flying feel different?
A: While ship mass, thrusters, and engines have always dictated how ships handle, they now do so more naturally and with fewer sudden changes in acceleration. There are more pronounced differences between engine types, manufacturers, and models, too.
 - Paranid: Fastest travel drives, and ships that fly almost like they are on rails, but much reduced manoeuvrability at high velocity.

 - Terran: Quickest travel drive charge-up time, very fast travel drive acceleration. Their ships are generally easy to use.

 - Split: Fastest regular engines, and just enough travel drive performance to intercept most targets. Their ill-controlled drifting is a challenge for rookie pilots though.

 - Argon: Very aggressive boosting that can offset their poor travel drive acceleration. Their combat ships benefit a lot from improved thrusters.

 - Teladi: Designed to outlast opponents in combat and haul efficiently at any distance.

 - Boron: The weakness of their regular engines can be offset by considered use of boosting and their pre-charged travel drives.
Q: Do I have to relearn how to fly?
A: While the core flight mechanics remain familiar, you may need to adjust to the new handling. Different engines now offer unique flight profiles, so experimenting with various configurations will help you find one that suits your playstyle the most.
Q: Can I revert these changes or get an engine that behaves like the old ones?
A: No, reverting is not possible due to the extensive changes to the flight model. However, certain engines offer handling similar to the previous iteration, so we recommend trying different types to find what you’re most comfortable with.
Q: Why does boosting no longer consume shields?
A: Boosting now has a separate energy bar, displayed around the speedometer. Engines determine boost duration and efficiency, so choosing the right one is important. Be careful, though, as NPCs also use this new boost system!
Q: What is the blue circle on my HUD?
A: That is the new Velocity Indicator, showing your ship’s actual movement direction. This is especially useful for ships that experience high drift, such as heavily loaded transports or those using powerful Split engines. It also comes in handy when flying with disabled Flight Assist.
 Q: Has the Gravidar changed?
A: Yes! We've enhanced the Gravidar - it should be more readable now. The viewing angle has been improved, and far-away objects are now more visible. We also added a few more Gravidar modes that you can cycle [CTRL+M by default].
Q: What else does this update include?
A: The update expands the universe, refines mechanics, and enhances visuals. Key additions include: - New sectors, offering alternative connections between Boron and Terran space and the main universe.

 - Behaviour Inspection Mode, allowing for better management and troubleshooting of player-owned assets.

 - Radar Station Module, significantly increasing station radar coverage.

 - FSR3 and DLSS support, improving graphical performance.

 - Numerous fixes and improvements (see full changelog here).
Q: Is the Hyperion included in this update?
A: No, the Hyperion expeditionary ship is part of the X4: Hyperion Pack mini-DLC and is not included in the free 7.50 update. You can purchase the X4: Hyperion Pack on Steam and GOG.
Q: What happened to my X4: Timelines leaderboard ranking?
A: Due to the major flight model changes, the Timelines leaderboard has been reset. However, your progress in the Timelines story itself is unaffected. Previous rankings have been archived and can be viewed here.
Q: Do I have to start a new game for the Flight Model Update and the X4: Hyperion Pack’s contents to appear in my game?
A: No - the Flight Model Update, as well as the X4: Hyperion Pack, will integrate seamlessly into your existing game sessions, regardless of whether you were playing the beta, or one of the previous versions of the game.
Q: I’m a modder. Where can I find documentation on the new flight model?
A: Documentation on flight parameters for ships, engines, and thrusters is available on the XWiki. You can find it here. |
